“You Can’t Be a Princess” | Journalists from ABC’s “What Would You Do?” planted hidden cameras in a Halloween store and filmed shoppers’ reactions to a boy who wanted a princess costume and a girl who wanted a Spiderman costume.
we are policed into our respective gender roles at a very, very young age.
This is disgusting. When I was these kids’ age, I was the Red Ranger for Halloween. I was a female who went out as a male character for Halloween. Why? Because I loved the character. Because I wanted to show that I loved the character very much by dressing as them, regardless of the difference in gender. No one thought it was weird or tried to force me to be a female character or got up in arms about it and tried to tell my mom she was doing the wrong thing by allowing me to be a male character. And in future tense? If my son wants to wear a dress for Halloween, he is damn well wearing a dress for Halloween. Because Halloween is about dressing up as something you’re not, and what fits that mold better than cross dressing? There is something very, very wrong with telling a child Halloween is the one night where they get to be whatever they want that isn’t who they normally are, and then telling them they aren’t allowed to dress up as what they want to dress up as because it makes you as the parent uncomfortable, or it makes other people uncomfortable and those people bullied you into telling them no. It’s confusing and unfair the the child.
oh my god this makes me so fucking angry.

“I think in many cases, your morality is deeply lacking if all you want is a child born, but not a child fed, not a child educated, not a child housed. That’s not pro-life. That’s pro-birth.”
